10 Towel Day Celebrations to Get Wrapped Up In

Yes indeed, tomorrow is Intergalactic Towel Day in honor of the late great author Douglas Adams. It’s the day when all true fans of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy proudly carry a towel about their person.

As the guide so rightly states: A towel is the most massively useful thing a hitchhiker can have, so here’s 42 uses for the greatest hitchhiker’s tool ever. Tomorrow’s towel related activates should go far beyond just using them for drying oneself and twisting them round and round in order to indulge in some towel-whipping hijinks.

So, now that you’re armed with knowledge on how best to use your towel on the most towelly of days, you’ll need to know where to find fellow enthusiasts of the top tool for hitchers. What follows is 10 of the coolest Intergalactic Towel Day events occurring tomorrow across the globe and online:

1: USA – T2D2 The Towel Day Towel Drive

Small games company Paradice Games will be bringing their Towel Drive event to a close tomorrow. After gathering towels this year from 11 March (Douglas Adams’ birthday) until 11 May (the anniversary of his death) Paradice Games employees will be delivering the collected towels to animal shelters in Portland, OR and Everett, WA.

The wacky folks at Paradice Games will be making the deliveries in bathrobes and pyjamas, so if you’re in the area, check it out and catch the spectacle.

2: UK - Vogon Poetry Slam

Tomorrow will see Whippersnapper Press holding a poetry competition like no other. Check out the Nerdcore and So-Bad-It’s-Good! poetry categories on offer. This galactic smorgasbord of bad poetry will take place at The Miller Pub, London Bridge, 96 Snowsfields Road, London SE1 3SS.

Howl with laughter, hoot with derision (good-naturedly of course) and wave your towel enthusiastically. Facebook page for more details.

In this 15,000 seater venue, Adams fans will wield towels with skill and style (or they might just flail around hopelessly) in order to win the crowd. After the tournament, there’s an abridged re-enactment of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, rounded off with a trip to the local bar to swap tales of towel-related combat.
