Apple Launch Improved Apple TV 3.0

Hobby centre looks prettier than ever with latest upgrade.

Apple have updated their Apple TV platform with a host of new features and a facelift to the interface that’s so pretty you’ll want to take it out to dinner.

Apple could never be accused of creating something that was ugly, but the old interface didn’t fit with the rest of the company’s “so-shiny-you-have-to-touch-it” aesthetic. Borrowing ideas from Sony (you won’t hear that often about Apple) the new interface feels much more like the PS3 navigation menu that’s simple and intuitive to use and looks clean and attractive.

Apple’s vice president of internet services, Eddy Cue said: “The new software for Apple TV features a simpler and faster interface that gives you instant access to your favourite content.”

The new software, branded “Apple TV 3.0″ was made available for free download yesterday and includes a number of new features to entice users. Probably the pick of the new crop of features is the improved compatibility with the latest versions of iTunes including iTunes LP, iTunes Extras and iTunes 9.

iTunes LP gives users the opportunity to make their own karaoke machine with interactive lyrics attached to popular songs. iTunes Extras is Apple’s online equivalent of the “bonus features” disc on DVD movies, providing deleted scenes, cast and crew interviews and making of documentaries for films hosted on Apple TV.

Music streaming from internet radio has also been added to Apple TV to make it a more integrated digital media player. Image browsing has been upgraded so that iPhotos will be organised quicker and users will be able to find the images they are looking for faster with facial recognition technology.
