BBC Commissions Lehman Bros Bankruptcy Drama
The drama, to be screened this autumn, will examine the events leading up to the fall of the once-mighty bank.
The BBC has revealed plans for a TV drama based on the last days of the doomed Lehman Brothers investment bank, The Guardian has reported.
The hour-long dramatisation about the events leading up to the fall of the US bank will be shown on BBC2 and is scheduled to be aired this autumn. It will star James Cromwell, who also starred in LA Confidential and Babe: Pig in the City.
Other actors who are slated for the drama include British favourite James Bolam, who recently appeared in BBC television’s New Tricks, Law & Order: UK‘s Ben Daniels, plus Michael Landes from the BBC comedy Love Soup and US actor Corey Johnson, who was in the 9-11 Hollywood blockbuster United 93.
The drama will be entitled The Last Days of Lehman Brothers and is inspired by the events surrounding the weekend of 12 September 2008, which saw the final collapse of the Wall Street giant. The script is being written by Craig Warner, whose previous work includes Maxwell and The Queen’s Sister.
It will be directed by The Curse of Steptoe‘s Michael Samuels and produced by Little Dorrit‘s Lisa Osborne. It is to be executive produced by Ruth Caleb, best known for her work on A Short Stay in Switzerland.
Ms Caleb revealed: “In the year following the collapse of Lehman Brothers, writer Craig Warner has written a very engaging script inspired by those events. We are also very fortunate that we have an exceptional cast, including James Cromwell, Ben Daniels and James Bolam, to bring those events to life.”
