Beyonce and Michael Jackson Headline GRAMMY Awards

Final Jacko performance will outshine Beyonce’s 10 nominations.

If there was a collective noun for musical award nominations, then a Beyonce of Awards would surely have to be a front runner given the nominations list for the 52nd Annual GRAMMY Awards.

This year the superstar singer received 10 nominations for GRAMMYs including Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.

Other strong female performances this year have come from Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift. The bizarre and beautiful Lady Gaga has been given 5 nominations, namely on the strength of the immensely catchy Poker Face which is nominated for Record of the Year and Song of the Year.

Country sensation Taylor Swift received 8 nominations, predictably dominating the country awards for Best Country Album, Best Country Song and Best Country Female Vocal Performance; but also picking up nominations against Beyonce and Lady Gaga for the coveted Record of the Year, and Album of the Year.

In a particularly competitive field this year, The Black Eyed Peas could well snatch the Record of the Year Award for I Gotta Feeling, as could dark horses Kings of Leon for Use Somebody.

Whilst the GRAMMYs is clearly about the awards given on the night, this year’s ceremony is likely to be dominated by its showpiece tribute to Michael Jackson. Even if Beyonce managed to somehow win all 10 of the awards she has been nominated for, her starlight will pale next to the Jackson’s 3D performance of Earth Song, originally intended for his comeback This Is It tour.

Jackson will be joined on stage by the likes of Celine Dion, Usher and Smokey Robinson. Nine-time GRAMMY winner Mary J. Blige and opera singer Andrea Bocelli will also sing a special performance of Bridge Over Troubled Water as a tribute to the Haiti Earthquake appeal.
