Brits Most Charitable Nation in the World
An international study of more than 12,000 people looking at global attitudes to ethical and environmental concerns has shown the UK to be the most charitable country in the world
A study of 12,000 people across 16 different countries has shed light on the issues that different countries care most about.
The study was commissioned by www.UnLtdWorld.com, the social network for social entrepreneurs.
83 per cent of British adults have given to charity in the past year, more than any other nation surveyed, with Canadians the next most charitable, with 77 per cent. South Africans are the least likely of the 16 countries to donate to charity, with 31 per cent claiming to have donated within the last year.
The most worthy charitable cause according to the respondents is donating towards health and disease, with 26 per cent of people across all countries agreeing it’s the cause they were most likely to donate to. 18 per cent of respondents said they preferred to donate to child welfare charities, whilst 17 per cent voted for Third World Aid.
14 per cent of respondents donated money to both animal welfare and water aid and 10 per cent preferred donating towards homelessness.
49 per cent of Americans said that animal welfare was the most worthy cause, whilst India were the most passionate about child welfare, with 41 per cent of Indians claiming to prefer donating to charities supporting children.
Alberto Nardelli, CEO of social network UnLtdWorld.com said: “This study threw up some golden information about international views and opinions regarding ethical, environmental and health issues, including charitable giving.”
He continued: “The fact that there’s such variance in views internationally is extremely interesting – especially with issues such as animal welfare, where just 3% of Dutch people feel it’s a worthy cause compared to half of Americans.”
