Simon Cowell Musters Celebrity Singers for Haiti Charity Single
Media mogul Simon Cowell has promised to release a charity single to help the victims of the Haiti earthquake.
The reality TV judge famous on both sides of the Atlantic for his roles on The X-Factor and American Idol is looking to unite stars from the US and UK music scene to create what could be the biggest selling single of all time.
Speaking at last night’s National Television Awards in London, Cowell revealed his plans to make a charity record: “We haven’t got an awful lot of time, but we are going to do something and attempt to raise as much money as possible,” reported BBC news.
Sky News reported that Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Robbie Williams and Cheryl Cole could be involved in the project.
Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney is also rumoured to be involved having shown his support for the Haiti charity by wearing a red ribbon to the awards ceremony.
Cowell has already wielded significant influence for charitable causes through his singing competitions. In the sixth season of American Idol in 2007, host Ryan Seacrest announced “Idol Gives Back” a charitable telethon that donated money to victims of Hurricane Katrina as well as giving aid to Africa. In 2008 The X-Factor contestants released a charity cover version of Mariah Carey’s Hero to raise money for the Help for Heroes campaign.
The Haiti charity single looks set to eclipse these efforts by some margin however. Cowell can muster a collaboration of celebrities stronger than any music mogul on the planet. Bob Geldof and Midge Ure gathered a host of musical sensations in the 1984 for the hit Do They Know It’s Christmas? to raise money for Ethiopia, but Cowell’s command of both UK and US stars will draw a scintillating collection of singers.
Stars that have emerged from the shows such as Leona Lewis, Alexandra Burke, Kelly Clarkson and David Cook are likely to feature. Mentors that have been enticed to feature on the shows could also lend their talents to the single including: Queen, Rihanna, Bon Jovi, Westlife, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Britney Spears, Dolly Parton and Alice Cooper.
Whoever is involved, the single will surely raise a lot of money for charity which can only be a good thing. Let us know who you want to see appear in the Haiti single, along with your nominations for what the charity song should be.

Kelly Clarkson
Kelly Clarkson should perform. There's no other person I can think of that deserves to be on here more than her. Her memorable Idol Gives Back performance left me in tears, yet inspired. Imagine a repeat of that performance, only better. Imagine how much good she can do for one song to raise money for charity.

David Cook!!!
You asked who and what? Well, for artists, I'd like to hear David Cook on this. Not sure about single. I think someone should write something special just FOR this. Not one already written and performed. It needs something original and fresh, but with Haiti as the focus. Helping Haiti... that's the focus... and then MAKE FOR DANG sure that the money actually GETS to the Haitians!!!

I would love to hear "Heroes" by David Cook as the charity single with David Cook, Bon Jovi, Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Paul McCartney, Queen, Michael Johns, Allison Iraheta, Carly Smithson, Bono, Eddie Vedder, Kings Of Leon, Muse and Sting singing together.

That would be really cool! But also put Adam Lambert, Jason Castro and David Archuleta in it too!

Another song
There have been millions of pounds being given to the Haiti people and I am sure if Simon and a few of the people singing on the record gave a million each the record would not be needed - the people of the UK are broke and have given money and always do to people that need it, and would it not be better to help all the children of the world like the children of the slums in Mumbai, Palestine, Africa, indeed all over the world. They all need our help for a better life.
Can someone also ask why the UN injected the AIDS virus into the hepatitis drugs into the people of Haiti, fact. You might then find out why it has taken so long for the aid to get to the people - population control. What is happening in this world is cruel. Look at the truth instead of blindly following the herd and chucking money at a situation, instead of giving love and helping the children.

Olivia Newton-John
Her connection with Simon and her overall appeal and involvement with charity issues makes her an obvious choice.

'Imagine' would have been a better choice of song.

I love this song!!! The video always makes me cry though. I hate to see people suffering and I hope this song becomes huge because Haiti needs help. :)
