Cineworld Profits UP Thanks to 3D Movies
Ice Age 3, Harry Potter and UP all contribute to profit increase at cinema group.
British cinema group Cineworld have recorded a 6.5 per cent increase in revenue in their latest board update thanks mainly to the re-emerging popularity of 3D films.
Yes stupidly oversized glasses in the cinema are proving the biggest hit with consumers as Cineworld push to keep their audiences away from widescreen TVs and into the cinema for an experience they cannot get sitting at home.
Top hits in the 43 week trading period up until 22 October 2009 included Ice Age 3, UP, Monster vs Aliens and Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, all of which contained 3D elements to thrill and entertain the public.

Whether it was Death Eaters destroying parts of London or intelligent canines quite literally “dog fighting” in custom made aeroplanes, the magic of 3D is bewitching the UK movie-goers to keep coming back for more. Cineworld announced box office revenue increases of almost 11 per cent as more people came to see the fantastical sights in a whole new viewing experience.
“Our digital expansion continues to deliver good results and the Group is capitalising on the increasing number of 3D films being released,” Cineworld announced in a press statement. The Group now controls approximately 23.8 per cent of the UK market share for cinemas.

With so much success attributed to 3D, the future release of Disney’s A Christmas Carol starring Jim Carrey and the much anticipated sci-fi adventure Avatar from James Cameron hold box office busting potential with their 3D innovation.
