Clash of the Titans Continues Bond Theme

Clash of the Titans Continues Bond Theme

Double helping of 007 actors join Cast of the Titans.

The mythic fantasy Clash of the Titans remake has taken its cue from the 1981 epic by casting ex-Bond actors to play key roles.

Notably, Quantum of Solace Bond girl Gemma Arterton has confirmed that she will be playing the part of demi-goddess Io in the new movie.

The original Clash of the Titans featured the original Bond girl, Ursula Andress, who appropriately played Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love, sex and beauty.

The new Clash of the Titans has continued the Bond theme by also signing up Casino Royale‘s villain Mads Mikkelsen. Mikkelsen played calculating poker player Le Chiffre in Daniel Craig’s first outing as 007. However, the Danish actor will be swapping cards for swords as he steps up to play heroic warrior Draco in the Greek epic.

Arterton, who recently attended the Empire Awards in London told Empire magazine what they could expect from the new movie: “The script is very different,” she said.

“Obviously the story is the story, but it’s much more about Perseus’ mission, and how he deals with being the son of Zeus, and things like that, so it feels a little more about him, and about the issues around that.”

As yet, there is no confirmation on who will play the key supporting role of Zeus. Sir Laurence Olivier delivered a very hammed up performance in the original but no-one news has been announced about who will take the role in the new movie.

Liam Neeson was rumoured to be in the running to play the King of the Gods, but with his recent family tragedy, losing his wife Natasha Richardson in a ski accident, Neeson may be unavailable for the part.

Clash of the Titans should be in cinemas by March 2010.
