Forget Song2, This is Blur2

Forget Song2, This is Blur2

Blur are back: bigger, better, uncut, in Hyde Park this summer.

“It’s been something we’ve been thinking about for a while,” says Blur frontman Damon Albarn. Albarn was interviewed by life-long friend and reunited band mate Graham Coxon for Absolute Radio.

About bloomin’ time, heaves a mass sigh of relief from fans who have been anticipating the return of Blur to the live stage for eight years now.

It was something which had to happen. Nevermind the fact that Take That have made a comeback and now Robbie Williams wants in on the action as his career is flagging, or that Boyzone have reformed for the promise of yet more riches, with Blur you know this is not about the money.

Coxon split from the band in 2002, but just like Batman and Robin, you just knew that in the end, the dynamic duo of Albarn and Coxon would be back in the thick of it, side by side. With any rift between the two apparently sealed, Blur are ready to “bring something fresh to the music”.

Blur had their issues in the 90s. They were catapulted to fame with their hit Parklife and in youthful naïveté had an excess of the usual musician’s diet of sex and drugs and rock ‘n’ roll.

Lead singer Albarn said when the band split it did seem “like an impossible task to reunite, then out of thin air its all forgotten.”

The frontman said that: “Graham and I have reconciled our differences,” now it’s up to the reformed band to get back to what they do best, making music. Blur are as popular now as they ever were, when the 50,000 tickets went on sale for their Hyde Park gig, they sold out in under 2 minutes.

The Hyde Park concerts will be on the 2-3 July 2009.

Fans will also be hoping that the rumours are true, and that Hyde Park is the beginning of something much bigger for 2008. There is the awesome possibility that Blur could be headlining Glastonbury, but don’t say it out loud or it may not come true.
