Gervais ID Fraud Fails on Thieves’ Office Photo
The Office star Ricky Gervais reveals details of failed bank fraud case.
Comedian Ricky Gervais, star of The Office and Extras revealed hilarious details of an epic fraud fail when thieves tried to use a passport photo of Gervais taken from the front cover of one of his DVDs to steal money from his account.

The criminals did manage to gain access to the actor’s account, stealing £200,000 ($329,000) in the process. And the scam would have worked too if it hadn’t been for that pesky famous face.
The fraudsters were foiled when they tried to use the funds to buy gold bullion using a fake passport sporting the smug face of David Brent, Gervais’ infamous boss character from The Office.
“All they did was cut out the picture on the first series of The Office DVD. So it’s a picture of David Brent sitting at a desk with that little smug look on his face,” revealed Gervais in his Law & Order podcast, reported by the Daily Mail.
Security staff at the bank were alerted who quickly informed Mr Gervais and asked him if he wished to involve the police in the fraud case.
Always one to see the funny side, Gervais couldn’t help imagining the scenario which led to the catastrophic events: “Can you imagine who was in charge of getting the photo?” he quipped.
“Dave you’re doing so and so. Julie, you’re on the inside. Bertie – can you get a picture? What are you going to HMV for?”
The money was returned to Mr Gervais who will be dining out on this episode for some time to come no doubt.
