God of War 3 Slays Final Fantasy XIII in Gaming Charts

Kratos is God of Charts as God of War 3 enters at top spot of gaming top 10.

Ultimate Greek-God-slaying hero Kratos has done it again in the gaming charts as God of War 3 set a new record for Sony this week, busting its way to the top of the all-format charts.

God of War 3 smashed its way past Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Final Fantasy XIII to take the exalted place at the top of the ELSPA GfK Chart. A strong chart this week saw EA’s Battlefield sequel come in second, just 1,000 sales behind God of War 3, but ultra-violent Kratos won the day over the first person shooter.

Despite trouncing Final Fantasy XIII this week with impressive opening sales for Sony, God of War 3 is still some way from total victory over Square Enix’s super-successful title.

Final Fantasy XIII still holds the crown as the fastest selling game of 2010, although those figures pale into insignificance next to Modern Warfare 2 from last year. Sales of Final Fantasy dipped dramatically this week however, with 80 per cent fewer units sold as gamers rushed to play God of War 3.

The third instalment of the God of War series certainly does not disappoint. The fast and furious carnage is as bloody and brutal as ever, and with the increased power of the PS3, players can now take on up to 50 enemies at once with Kratos’ deadly combos.

Sony announced over the weekend that players would be able to relive the brilliance of the first two God of War games in a digitally remastered HD version, The God of War Collection, due out at the end of April.

If fans can hold on long enough before sinking their teeth into God of War 3, the God of War Trilogy boxset will also be released at the end of April. The trilogy contains the same remastered versions of God of War and God of War 2 along with the latest instalment. The trilogy boxset will be priced at £64.99 in the UK (?89.99, $96.99).
