Animatronic fish spouts Monty Python and Homer Simpson quotes.
As fun as Big Mouth Billy Bass was when he first became the wall mount of choice back in 2000, his repertoire was always a little stifled and limiting.
Listening to everyone’s favourite animatronic fish belting out Don’t Worry, Be Happy for the umpteenth time did start to get irritating after a while. Fortunately, some bright spark at microelectronics company mbed decided to give Billy a “brain transplant” and taught him some new choice phrases.
As the mbed blog explains: “Big Mouth Billy Bass was feeling a little unloved. So Steve, one of our mbed beta testers, decided to teach him some new tricks. He transplanted Billy with an mbed Microcontroller and an SD card, and he got a new lease of life.”
The result is the hilarious YouTube video, brought to the public’s attention via Metro and b3ta links, with Billy spouting lines from the likes of Homer Simpson and the Monty Python team. Ex-presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush are given a brand new comical twist from the mouth of Billy including Clinton’s denial: “I did not have sexual relations with that woman” and Bush’s confused “Fool Me Once” anecdote.
The highlight of the video is certainly exerts from Monty Python and the Holy Grail, including the incredible Knights who say “Ni” followed by a stunning rendition of the Lumberjack Song from Monty Python’s Flying Circus.
Big Mouth Billy Bass has enjoyed cult status, featuring in 90210, WALL-E, The Sopranos and an advert for McDonald’s filet-o-fish, but with Billy’s new found voice(s) the possibilities are endless for his uses. You can follow Billy on Twitter here.
