No place for Susan Boyle in BRIT Award nominations as Pixie Lott, Lily Allen and Florence & The Machine grab three nominations each.

Celebrating three decades of great British and International music, the BRIT Awards turn 30 this year.

The nominations were announced yesterday with a distinctly feminine touch this year, showcasing the best of British female artists.

Last night, Radio 1 host Fearne Cotton announced the nominees for the 12 categories at a star studded launch party in anticipation of the awards which will be televised next month on 16 February 2010.

Leading the nominations were Lily Allen, Pixie Lott and Florence & The Machine each receiving three nominations.

All three artists are up for the British Female Solo Artist Award; whilst Lily Allen and Pixie Lott will be battling it out for the British Single award among a host of X-Factor hits including Alexandra Burke, Joe McElderry, JLS and mentor Cheryl Cole.

Pixie Lott is also nominated for the British Breakthrough Act along with Florence & The Machine; whilst Florence and Allen will be competing for the MasterCard British Album of 2010 award. In the international acts, Lady Gaga is likely to clear up with three nominations for International Female Solo Artist, International Album and International Breakthrough Act.

Notably, no mention of reality TV sensation Susan Boyle was a surprise in the nominations.

This year being the 30th BRIT Awards, the BRIT Academy has announced two special awards to commemorate the event: BRITs Album of 30 Years and BRITs Hits 30. The latter is still carefully under wraps and no nominees have been announced as of yet. The former celebrates some of the great artists of the last three decades including Dire Straits, Coldplay, Oasis, Phil Collins, The Verve and Keane.
