Patient having sleep trouble claims she was advised to “find a willy and have some sex”.

A woman in Dublin has lost a case brought against her GP who prescribed a dose of “willy” and “rumpy pumpy” as a cure for a lack of sleep.

42 year-old GP Dr Ross Shane Ardill was cleared of professional misconduct yesterday after a complaint was brought forward by patient Alma McQuaide.

Ms McQuaide had been suffering from abnormal sleeping patterns and was shocked when her doctor gave her some less-than-routine advice.

Ms McQuaide complained about Dr Ardill who felt his childish remarks were, “highly insensitive at least and offensive at most,” according to the Irish Independent.

Among Dr Ardill’s remedies for her sleeping disorder, Ms McQuaide claimed she was advised to “find a willy and have some sex” along with exercise and having “hot alcoholic drinks” during an in depth 30 minute consultation.

Dr Ardill strenuously denied that he had used the phrase “find a willy and have some sex” but did admit to referring to “a man’s willy bits” as he was concerned Ms McQuaide had contracted a sexually transmitted disease.

Dr Ardill further admitted to offering “rumpy pumpy” as a suggestion to alleviate his patient’s lack of sleep, but said he had not prescribed sex or intimated that Ms McQuaide must have sex to cure her condition.

Dr Ardill was cleared of all charges and told the Irish Independent he was relieved that the ordeal was over. When asked to speak about his comments to Ms McQuaide, the doctor stuck to his guns, saying that his medical advice had been sound.

The language and tone used by this doctor was degrading and infantalizing and absolutely inappropriate and unprofessional.

I think the whole article is giving a wrong picture. Dr Ardill nowhere made comment to this lady regarding sex as a treatment for insomnia.

Dr Ardill is highly respected and an excellent professional.
It’s not fair that anyone can just take out their frustration on GPs/physicians.

Judging by Ms McQuaides’ reaction, the diagnosis was spot-on.
