London Man Impaled by Shop Window Shard

Banana Republic remained tight-lipped today after a man died from injuries sustained pushing a woman through one of their store windows.

An attack on a woman shopper led to a 30-year-old man’s death in the early hours of the morning today when he became impaled on a shard of glass after shoving her through a shop window.

The unidentified man was seen having a vicious argument in London’s Regent Street at shortly after 2am. Witnesses told police that he threw the woman against the window of a branch of Banana Republic three times – and after the final blow the glass shattered.

Both the assailant and victim fell through into the clothing store, although it was the man who was fatally injured. After a police patrol was flagged down and paramedics called, the man was pronounced dead at the scene and the woman was taken to hospital, where she was treated for multiple cuts.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: “When officers arrived at Great Marlborough Street, they found a male, believed to have gone through the window of a shop. A woman was also found at the scene, suffering cuts.”

“London Ambulance Service attended but the man, aged 30, was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman, also aged 30, was taken to a central London hospital. Her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.”

He added: “Officers believe they know who the deceased is but await formal identification and next of kin to be informed. A post-mortem examination will be arranged in due course.”

The store has since reopened but Banana Republic has declined to comment on the incident, perhaps wishing to avoid any negative publicity.
