Man Utd Accept Real Deal For Ronaldo

Unconditional offer of £80 million accepted.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s childhood dream of one day playing for Real Madrid could become a reality next season as opening negotiations have begun between Manchester United and Real Madrid.

Manchester United formally accepted an unconditional offer of £80 million for the world’s best player. If the deal goes through, Ronaldo will smash the current record for the largest player transfer fee; a record which was broken just this week when Real Madrid signed Brazilian star Kaka from AC Milan for a reported £56 million.

In a statement from Manchester United’s official website, the club said: “At Cristiano’s request – who has again expressed his desire to leave – and after discussion with the player’s representatives, United have agreed to give Real Madrid permission to talk to the player.”

Provided Ronaldo can agree terms with Real Madrid, the transfer is expected to be wrapped up by the end of this month. Given his expressed desire to leave United, and Madrid’s seemingly inexhaustible wealth, it seems only a matter of time before the deal is signed and sealed.

Should the deal go forward, Real Madrid will have spent an astonishing £136 million on just two players. However, Real president Florentino Perez has few limitations for Galacticos 2.0, as the second instalment aims to surpass the original super team, forging the greatest collection of players the modern game has ever seen.

Spanish teammates David Villa and Cesc Fabregas are also on Real’s hit list, along with French forward Franck Ribéry, Barcelona striker Samuel Eto’o and unsettled Argentine striker Carlos Tevez. Real are desperate to knock rivals Barcelona off the top of La Liga and regain the Champions League glory that has been strangely absent in the last few years.

Perez is constructing a football behemoth, and Ronaldo and Kaka could be a frighteningly effective force to steamroller Real Madrid to glory.

If the deal for Ronaldo does go through then it will truly signal the return of the Los Galactico philosophy that ran through the halls of the Bernabeu.

Of course Real Madrid have always been associated with football at its highest form but in 2000 they pulled off a massive coup by poaching Portuguese playmaker Luis Figo from bitter rivals Barcelona for a sum of £40million. The highly controversial switch saw Figo encounter tremendous stick from the Barca fans who once adored him, during one game he even had a pig’s head hurled at him from the stands.

The next Galactico to board the Real shuttle was the imperious Zinedine Zidane. The wonderfully gifted French midfielder became the most expensive footballer in the world (up till now) with an astonishing £45.8 million transfer from Italian side Juventus.

The following year Real nabbed Brazillian striking sensation Ronaldo from Inter Milan, and in 2003 the signed David Beckham from Manchester United, right under the noses of Barcelona.

Having an awesome selection of players Real started to calm down a little with the signings, still buying big names, but perhaps not the likes of Zidane et al. Micheal Owen, Fabio Cannavaro, Robinho, Ruud Van Nistlerooy and Arjen Robben have since played for Real.

However now, with the astronomical signing of Kaka, and the move for Ronaldo which looks certain to go ahead, they will have arguably the two biggest names in football today, for a combined fee of £136 million. Galactico indeed.

I guess this is to be expected. Ronaldo wants to play in Spain, and Ferguson doesn’t want players at United who are bigger than the team.

Ronaldo, like Beckham, has become something more than a great player, something Ferguson sees as a threat.

    Come on Fulham.

He’s done what’s expected of him at Man. Utd. We are also going to pocket a lot of cash. Thanks Ronaldo and good luck with Real M.

Glad to see the back of the perma-tanned Portuguese. Talented, without a doubt, but the argumentative and greedy git was irritating, even to his own club and their fans. He’s not worth £80m and won’t win as much in Spain.

Manchester United bought him for £12.24m in 2003.

That is about £68M profit in 6 years! Not to mention the value he brought to the club over the 6 years.

    Well done Fergie!

Well, no-one will be able to replace him. Sure, that £80m can buy 2 good players, but never a gamechanger of his standard! He always puts them in the back of the net when the team needs it!

Will be interesting to see the transfers Fergie goes for.

    Come on Liverpool!

It’s OK, we’ve still got Scholesy, Giggsy and Nanisy who aren’t too old or too rubbish, and will use the profit to get 2 more Berbatovs – imagine that forward line with 3 Berbas!!!!!!!!!!!!! We won’t miss Ronnie’s 40 goals a season or Tevez’s industry, no way.

Also my mum says I’m special because I’m the only Man. U. fan whose IQ is higher than his age.

Glad to see the back of this. Now we can go shopping and get real players who won’t be whining till the grass turns yellow.

I think first Ronaldo is a great player but leaving Man. Utd like Beckham is so worst.
