Microsoft Win Over Anti Natal Classes with Kinect
Microsoft impress at E3 with rebranded Project Natal.
Microsoft unveiled more details of its motion control gaming system, the newly dubbed Kinect, which has been developed under the working title of Project Natal.
Thousands of guests were invited to Microsoft’s E3 presentation at the Los Angeles Galen Center to see a demonstration of the new Kinect for Xbox 360.
An early look at Kinect was granted to USA Today who reviewed the new system.
During the 45 minute presentation at E3, perhaps the biggest announcement from Microsoft was that they were working in collaboration with LucasArts to produce a Star Wars game for Kinect.
The prospect of wielding a lightsaber and Force-grabbing stormtroopers using nothing but your hands as game controllers is an incredibly exciting proposition for fans of the Star Wars franchise. If the game can replicate the gameplay and story of the Force Unleashed series with motion control, then Microsoft are on to a winner.
Foremost among the Kinect demonstrations has been the river rafting game Kinect Adventure. The Kinect measures how players paddle, slide and jump to mirror movements on screen, and bonus points are awarded for coordinating movements with other players.
Much like Nintendo’s Wii, Microsoft plan to tap into the market of casual gamers with simple and fun mini-games. Kinect Sports looks like a shameless copy of the phenomenally popular Wii Sports, whilst Kinectimals will have echoes of Dogz on the DS.
Other games in the pipeline include Joyride, a racing game where players will emulate holding a steering wheel, and Dance Central, a dance game developed by MTV.
