Minecraft 2: Ender Rising Takes Things up Another Notch
With Minecraft fully finished and released, fans now look to the prospect of a sequel to indie gaming’s hottest block-busting builder phenomenon.
While the recently released version of the game will continue to be patched and updated as Notch and the Mojang gang innovate and add to its foundations, thoughts now naturally turn to a sequel. YouTube user nathanimator has a vision of this Minecraft 2 future… and that future is beautiful.
A house that converts into a raised weapons platform with twin TNT launching cannons? That’s Minecraft for you. When a game has imagination and invention at its heart, then there’s almost nothing that can’t be rendered in utterly brilliant blocky form.
The fan-made tribute video Minecraft 2: Ender Rising raises the interesting prospect of what could be accomplished if Mojang implemented a more sophisticated physics engine into the game. Minecraft players already construct elaborate traps using the game’s rather rudimentary tools such as levers and pressure plates, imagine if you could up the ante with transforming buildings and dynamite launchers!
Mojang are currently working on two other titles, an action adventure game known as Cobalt and a card collecting and board game based RPG called Scrolls. While it will be exciting to see what this remarkable indie developer can produce next, I think we all want to know what they plan to do to build on the spectacular success of Minecraft.
