Missing Mattress Means Million Lost

A woman has accidently thrown out a mattress stuffed with $1 million

A woman in Tel-Aviv, Israel has sparked a nationwide matt-hunt after accidently throwing away a mattress stuffed with $1 million in life savings.

Known only as Anat, the woman made the mistake after buying a new mattress for her mother. Discarding the old mattress, Anat was unwittingly chucking a fortune away which had been stashed away over decades.

Her mother had been using the bed as a hiding place for the money. Israeli newspaper, Yedoith Ahronoth, reported that upon discovering that the mattress had been binned, she “almost fainted”.

Of course Anat swiftly went to retrieve the cash-bed but unfortunately it was too late – the mattress had been taken to the local Hiriya dump. When she reached the garbage compound she was told that the millionaire mattress, along with 3,000 tonnes of more waste, had been taken to one of two other dumps.

Hurrying to the next closest site, Ganei Hadas, poor Anat’s searches reaped no reward so she ventured to the next one, Efeh. By this point she was “totally desperate” as described by the director of the third site, Yitzhak Borba, who was talking to Israel’s Army Radio.

Staff at the third site chipped in to help the woman but still there has been no discovery, security at the site has been increased due to fears that the huge sum of money potentially sitting amongst the rubbish will attract modern day treasure hunters looking to cash in.

Admirably Anat remained calm when asked about the loss, she said: “People have to take everything in proportion and thank God for the good and the bad”.

Perhaps feeling a little down in the dumps herself, Anat’s Mother has failed to make a comment thus far.
