What are you most looking forward to playing in 2012?
That’s it! 2011 is all done and dusted. It was a year of incredibly fun highs and extremely disappointing lows, just as any year of significant video gaming should be.
With 2011 all wrapped up I have to momentarily ignore my backlog of games that’s more swollen than my stomach that’s been overstuffed again thanks to the traditional holiday season’s overeating! It’s time to look forward to the games of 2012 and decide which ones I truly cannot wait for.
For the top choice, it’s a no-brainer.
Diablo 3
The third instalment of the Diablo franchise may not have a solid release date yet, but its glorious return is bound to be occurring this year. As Blizzard’s vice president of creative development Chris Metzen said at BlizzCon 2011: “It’s coming soon, we are so, so close.”
I’m very happy to set my stall out early on this one and say that Diablo 3 will delight RPG veterans and newcomers alike as the world’s finest dungeon-crawler franchise returns after an 11 year absence.
If the Diablo 3 beta that was released late last year is anything to go by, players can expect a beautifully crafted, fast paced RPG that will outshine its predecessors (and competitors) in almost every way.
Oh, and you can even earn real money playing it. While Blizzard’s decision to create a real currency auction house might not be everybody’s idea of gaming fun, I for one am intrigued to see how this innovation will alter the face of gaming. Come on Blizzard, put us out of our misery, when will Diablo 3 release?!
