NASA Recruiting for Virtual Lunar Mission
NASA has announced its new 3D interactive adventure game, allowing players to join a virtual mission base on the moon.
Ever imagined yourself as an astronaut, working on a distant moonbase as the Earth rises over the horizon into the inky black sky?
Ever fancied driving buggies around a dusty alien world and fiddling with oxygen pipes and radar dishes? Of course you have.
And that’s why NASA has created the interactive 3D game Moonbase Alpha.
Gameplay is based around a futuristic moonbase, and will allow players to join what the agency describes as “realistic NASA exploration scenarios”, including working on damaged oxygen supplies and other systems after a meteor strike near the lunar station.
Players also have access to VOIP chat and text chat facilities, allowing for communication between team players. The immersive game can also be a one-player, and is due for release on July 6th.
Moonbase Alpha joins Astronaut Moon, Mars and Beyond MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online game) as part of NASA’s Learning Technologies (LT) strategy to educate through interactive games. The ambitious Astronaut Moon, Mars and Beyond game will feature technology, science, mathematics and engineering challenges built into an immersive, virtual game experience.
The ‘mission’ of NASA Games, as stated on their Facebook site, is “to promote space exploration and inspire the next generation of space explorers through videogames and virtual worlds”.
