New Mass Effect 3 Website Shows off Shiny Action Vids
Just when the wait couldn’t seem any more unbearable…
Mass Effect creators BioWare have released a funky redesigned official website for the game series that has a number of spectacular new videos designed to bring gamers who are unfamiliar with Commander Shepard’s escapades up to speed.
Mass Effect’s official release date has been slated for March 6 for the US, March 8 for Australia and March 9 for Europe.
BioWare have been coming under some flak recently for a number of elements involved in the latest episode of the series: Mass Effect 3. Some fans don’t like the emphasis on faster, more FPS-style combat. Some don’t like the inclusion of multiplayer. Some simply don’t like the details of the story that aren’t even definitely present in the finished product but were simply leaked over the internet.
Long story short: the pressure is on for BioWare as a sizeable number of fans have been wringing their hands in anxiety over the conclusion of the Mass Effect trilogy. The pressure is doubly intense after BioWare’s last single-player release, Dragon Age 2, did not receive the general critical acclaim that the company is used to.
However, everything that I’ve seen and read about Mass Effect 3 leads me to believe that it will be a sterling success. Whether or not it clears the highly raised bar set by the superb Mass Effect 2 is hard to say but I have little doubt that it will be a hugely satisfying conclusion to the trilogy.
You can tell from these videos – and ones that BioWare have previously released – that the developer cares very much about retaining the essential strength of the Mass Effect series in this final instalment: the ability to tell a great story. While the action may look impressively super-charged and visually spectacular, BioWare know that the reason players love Mass Effect so much is that they genuinely feel like the central pillar in an epic space adventure that unfolds according to the actions that they take.
Expect that same feeling in Mass Effect 3. BioWare will have working hard to ensure that you recognise and embrace it.
