Nintendo 3DS Next Generation Gaming with No 3D Specs
Nintendo announce first handheld 3D console with the Nintendo 3DS.
Nintendo have tantalisingly dangled the prospect of a 3D handheld console in front of legions of fans, as it announced its latest innovation – the Nintendo 3DS.
The announcement further entrenches the belief that entertainment is hurtling towards fully 3D experiences. Movies have led the way with ground-breaking advancements in Avatar and Alice in Wonderland, to be followed this year with no less than 19 potentially awesome 3D movies including Clash of the Titans, Toy Story 3 and Tron Legacy.

Sport has taken the cue from film to bring live 3D action to viewers as Sky rolls out its 3D platform. Arsenal vs Manchester United in 3D was the first English Premier League football match to use the new technology, and selected Six Nations Rugby matches have also been shown in 3D as sport adds a new dimension to its enticing allure.
3D video games then are the inevitable conclusion of the 3D revolution in entertainment. Having made such an impact in the seventh generation games consoles with the Wii, Nintendo’s innovation in motion control arguably saved the franchise from being left behind by Sony’s PS3 and Microsoft’s Xbox 360.

Now Nintendo seek to capitalise again on innovation by bringing the first 3D console in the form of the Nintendo 3DS. The technology will be so pioneering that Nintendo claim users will not need to wear the ridiculous 3D specs, though quite how they plan to achieve this is being kept a closely guarded secret.

Nintendo did reveal that current DS games would be playable in 3D on the new 3DS, and that they plan to release the 3DS before the end of the 2010 financial year, which means a release date sometime before April 2011. Given Nintendo’s previous experience, a Christmas release at the end of this year could definitely be on the cards.
All of which leaves a weight of anticipation heading towards June’s E3 Expo show, where Nintendo promise to reveal more about the 3DS.

Luckily I don’t have a DS or DSi/XL. I would want to wait for the 3DS, and buy it for real.
No, it’s not cool. They should have let me know this early.
Wow, that really sucks.
I just got myself a DS XL – haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
I hope the 3D screen doesn’t suck and become a kind of pointless feature, like the camera’s in the DSi. It was a good idea but the cameras sucked, making them pointless.
The reason the cameras never took off as a feature were that there never really was any DSi exclusive game released to use them. Developers wanted to publish games that were compatible with the DS and DS Lite as well as the DSi. Maybe this will change now that there are 3DS exclusive games that are not backwards compatible at all.
Hi there, I have used the DSi cameras. I have got quite a few good pictures, say like 50, but you do need a well-lit room or outdoors. Not good for low light levels but you are also right – Nintendo 3DS should have better cameras.
