Obama Puts Handbrake on Car Exhaust Emissions
President Obama introduces tough new emissions standards.
In what has been labelled a “historic turning point” President of the United States Barack Obama has unveiled new standards for greenhouse gas emissions.
Strict new limits have been set by the President regarding car pollution, as he aims to drastically reduce the amount of carbon dioxide released by automobiles. He has set a 2016 deadline for all vehicles sold in America to decrease their emissions by one third.
President Obama hopes to lose 177 million cars from America’s roads within the next seven years, also saving precious oil. If successful, the new limits will reduce carbon output from the US by 30 per cent.
Speaking to a collection of motor vehicle executives, environmentalists and state governors, President Obama said: “For the first time in history we have set in motion a national policy aimed at increasing gas mileage and decreasing greenhouse gas pollution for all new trucks and cars sold in the United States”.
This new policy represents a serious shift away from those of his predecessor, George W Bush, and possibly signals a death knell for the well known “gas-guzzling” vehicles that litter US roads. It represents a one-two punch in the face of environment problems as Mr Obama states that the new scheme will save 1.8 billion barrels of oil, along with the cuts of 900 million metric tonnes of carbon dioxide, and other harmful gasses.
The landmark policy has come after extensive periods of negotiations between President Obama, car manufacturers, and the state of California; where efforts to reduce greenhouse gasses have been championed for years. Governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger spoke happily of the decision: “Three or four other presidential administrations have tried to do this and weren’t successful. This president, after 120 days in office, has created the action that brought everyone together.”

We need more people that smoke weed to come together and make the world a better place because smoking weed is good. Even if it is not, it is better then drinking and crashing.
