An Air France airliner has vanished over the Atlantic Ocean, leaving 228 people feared dead.

The search for plane wreckage has begun after an Air France plane mysteriously disappeared over the Atlantic, leaving over 200 people feared dead.

The latest updates in the story reveal pilots flying for Brazilian airline TAM spotted an anomaly in the water which they believed to be a fire on the ocean, close to where the Air France jet would have been flying.

Brazilian aircraft cited debris some 400 miles from the Brazilian coast. Seats, parts of fuselage and baggage were seen drifting in the ocean, according to BBC News. Officials have since managed to confirm that the wreckage is indeed from the missing Air France aircraft.

The planes were on a similar course flying between Paris and Rio de Janeiro.

Colonel Jorge Amaral, a spokesman for the Brazilian Air Force said that they were investigating the pilot’s claim. “There is information that the polot of a TAM aircraft saw several orange points on the ocean while flying over the region,” Colonel Amaral said according to The Associated Press.

He continued: “After arriving in Brazil, the pilot found out about the disappearance (of the Air France plane) and said that he thought those points on the ocean were fire.”

The Air France plane disappeared yesterday, in what could potentially be the biggest air disaster in over ten years. An automated electrical fault signal was received from the plane however there was no call made by the pilot to give a clear indication as to what exactly caused the disappearance.

Following the plane’s message absolutely nothing else was heard, leaving the authorities with no option but to fear the worst. Speculation has led to thoughts that the plane encountered very extreme weather conditions, including the possibility that the plane may have been hit by lightning, but expert opinions suggest that lightning alone would not be enough to fell the airliner.

Military aircraft from both France and Brazil have started the search of the huge space in the Atlantic where the plane is believed to have gone down, unfortunately the vast 680 mile stretch of ocean that needs to be combed will make all efforts to locate any wreckage an immensely arduous task. At this point there is no other option but to assume that all 228 passengers on the plane, including 61 French, 58 Brazillians, 26 Germans and five Britons, have died.

The President of France, Nicolas Sarkozy, issued a sombre message from Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris: “It’s a tragic accident. The chances of finding survivors are tiny”.

With so few clues the authorities are struggling to find reasons behind the loss of a whole plane. Foul play, such as terrorism, has been ruled out and with the high chance that the plane, and its all-knowing black box, could be resting at the bottom of the sea, this is a mystery that unfortunately may never be solved.

Yes. Perhaps your comprehension of spelling, grammar and the English language in general also flew through the Bermuda Triangle and miraculously disappeared as you wrote this post.

It couldn’t be the Bermuda Triangle because it is located from Miami to Bermuda and to North America. Hope this mystery could be solved.
