Orange Announce iPhone Date 10 November 2009
iPhone will be available from Orange next week.
Mobile phone network Orange has confirmed that it will be bringing the Apple iPhone to the UK network on 10 November 2009.
One week tomorrow, customers will be able to get heir hands on the coveted handset on the “best 3G network in the UK,” according to the provider.
Customers can pick up their iPhone or iPhone 3G S from Orange retail stores, Orange online, The Carphone Warehouse, Phones4U and some independent retailers.
The move spells the end of O2 supremacy in the UK iPhone market as consumers will now have a choice about which network they will use for their iPhone. Orange announced in a press release that they would price their contracts competitively, offering a free handset if customers bought a £30 per month two-year contract.
Orange originally announced in September that they had agreed a deal with Apple to sell the iPhone but did not specify when the phone would be available to buy on the Orange network. Just over a month later, Orange said a quarter of a million customers have registered interest for an iPhone on their designated website.
“The excitement for the iPhone is immense,” commented Orange’s UK CEO, Tom Alexander, “We will be matching their enthusiasm with a 3G mobile broadband network that covers more people in the UK than any other operator, a commitment to deliver the best 3G experience on the iPhone and best-in-class applications and plans.”
Customers should beware the “unlimited” data use which comes with the Orange contracts however, as the company has capped usage at 750MB per month. The company is confident most customers will not reach this limit.

… then I would pronounce the new company: FROOT!

I already have one but my mate at work is looking to get one. Hardly what I’d call “competitive pricing”. This 2-year contract nonsense needs to stop. Phone technology is not designed to last that long, otherwise you’d never upgrade.
I want to see this phone on a 1-year contract for £30 a month. Now that’s competitive.
