Pete Doherty in the Dock Yet Again
The Babyshambles singer took time out from his latest court appearance to chat with fans in Cheltenham today.
Trouble-prone rock star Peter Doherty posed for photos and signed autographs today as he stood on the steps of Cheltenham Magistrates’ Court, where he was facing a charge of drink-driving after a gig.
The singer was clad in his trademark black suit and trilby hat, and sported a large crucifix for the hearing, at which he was told that he had until October to decide on his plea. He had already attended one hearing, where he denied another charge of dangerous driving but he has not yet offered a plea to the main charge of being at the wheel of his car in Gloucester on 11 June with 50 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml of breath in his system.
Doherty has also admitted two charges of drug possession and driving with no licence or insurance.
Judge Joti Boparai told him yesterday to present himself at Gloucester Crown Court on 2 October to answer the drink-driving charge and to fix a provisional trial date for the dangerous driving allegations. He may also face sentencing on the other charges on this date.
At the end of the hearing, Doherty also admitted another motoring offence which took place last November. He confessed that he failed to tell Dorset police who was the driver of a Jaguar when it was stopped by officers.
For this incident, he was fined £500 and received six points on his licence. The singer was also ordered to pay a £15 victim surcharge.
Pete Doherty next public appearance for the right reasons is to play at the V Festival in the UK, which takes place over the weekend of 22 and 23 August.
