Raimi Joins Guild to Make World of Warcraft Movie
Director joins Legendary production group responsible for Where the Wild Things Are.
Legendary film-maker Sam Raimi has been confirmed as the director of the hotly-anticipated World of Warcraft movie.
Raimi, who made his name with the cult horror classic The Evil Dead, became a household name for his phenomenal work bringing Spider-man lovingly back to the big screen, cementing a tradition in the last decade for huge summer blockbuster superhero movies which was started by X-Men in 2000.
The fantasy world of the Warcraft universe will appeal to both sides of Raimi’s talents, featuring both mighty heroes and undead zombies.
With over 11 million players across the globe, the legions of World of Warcraft fans will have high expectations for a Raimi epic.
“At its core, Warcraft is a fantastic, action-packed story,” Raimi revealed in a press release from the game’s creators, Blizzard Entertainment. “I am thrilled to work with such a dynamite production team to bring this project to the big screen.”

The movie certainly has one hell of a production team behind it. Blizzard have teamed up with Legendary Pictures, the team responsible for Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, 300 and Watchmen, as well as the long-awaited Clash of the Titans remake and children’s classic Where the Wild Things Are. Legendary’s Charles Roven, who produced the billion-dollar grossing The Dark Knight is on board to work on the Warcraft project.

Backing the project financially are Warner Bros., who have partnered with Legendary on previous titles. Jeff Robinov, Warner Bros. President said: “Warcraft is emblematic of the kind of branded, event films for which our studio is best known. We have enjoyed great success with out partners at Legendary, and this is an incredible opportunity for us to work with Sam on a project this is so eagerly anticipated by so many”.
No further details have been released yet, but whenever the film is released, it will be a massive hit. Blizzard’s last expansion Wrath of the Lich King smashed records as the fastest selling PC game of all time, with more than four million copies sold in its opening month. The anticipation will reach fever pitch, but with the catalogue of successes behind them, the newly formed guild of heroes should create an absolute corker.
