Red, Dead and Redeemed All Over
The stone-cold chart killer Red Dead Redemption has added to its content with a free downloadable expansion from Rockstar.
It’s been a month since the gunslinging, fast-talking and generally pulse-racing Wild West antics of Red Dead Redemption exploded onto our Xboxes. Now, with the gaming audience well and truly lassoed and ready to be led towards more, Rockstar has released a free downloadable expansion: Outlaws to the End.
Bigger and Better Things
Outlaws to the End cranks up the fun by adding to the variety of multiplayer missions that you and your hard-bitten posse can use to test your trigger fingers. Epic assaults of forts, daring robberies of gold mines and more are now available as means of spreading your fame across the West.
Each mission tests your teamwork skills to the limit as no lone gunslinger can hope to accomplish them single handedly. Some timely covering fire from your gang members will get them varmints a-duckin’, so you can sneak in and start fitting them with wooden coats!
The Plan
By taking the well-established GTA reputation for carnage and mayhem but translating it into the unassailably cool environment of the Old West, Rockstar have managed to successfully breathe new life into their game format.
Realising that even the die-hard fans were beginning to lose interest after running over the 17th hooker on the mean streets of another grim American metropolis, the designers have transported their loyal fans to a completely new environment. Fortunately, it’s still an environment where you have the option to kill, rob and generally terrorise anything in your path!
There are enough similarities in the game mechanics of Red Dead… and GTA to keep the old veterans happy but also suit the Wild Western style of weaponry and transport; Sig Sauers are traded for six shooters and mustangs for… well, mustangs. The way your character rides, walks and shoots draws significant inspiration from the GTA system yet manages to capture the feel of turn of the century Western America.
Rounding up The Posse
More importantly Red Dead… goes further than its spiritual predecessor in the breadth of its multiplayer feature, improved significantly by the newly released expansion. The traditional range of multiplayer modes are available, such as capture the flag (or in this case capture the gold bag) and the standard team death match. The twist in the tale here is that a hilariously lethal Mexican stand-off determines the positioning of the players in the upcoming match, with the winner receiving a head start.
Similar to GTA 4, players also have the option of exploring the game’s environment online, competing with friends or joining forces to round up a ‘posse’ to take on more difficult challenges. While players cannot complete the missions of the main plot together, the rest of the game remains open to them.

Red Dead is an awesome game and I can’t wait to get hold of the DLC to play co-op missions. Rockstar have raised the bar.
Clever word play, enjoyed the article. But still can’t get a hold of the game…
Alas.
This game gets me all excited.
Best game Rockstar have released to date. Article sums it up nicely.
