Three protagonists, three outbreaks, one mission: stop the viral spread.
Resident Evil proper (disregarding spinoffs) returns for its 6th title in the series. From the looks of the trailer, it’s certainly going to be bigger than Resi 5, but will it be better?
Have a gander at Capcom’s newly released trailer and have a guess yourself. It actually shows a decent amount of gameplay footage, enough to get a little insight into what to expect:
Helicopter rappelling, subway sections and giant monstrosities that look heftier than ever. All with a zombified president looking to tear out Leon’s throat too! Hail to the teeth!
My two cents: it’s never good to judge a game by its trailer but I had mixed feelings on it. The dark atmospheric beginning made me think that the series would be getting back to its horror roots… by trying to actually scare us again. This feeling continued as Leon’s section in the subway played out.
Then it cut to Chris’s section and the Gears of War/COD sequences began. Big explosions, lots of flashy set pieces, less of the dark brooding atmospheric stuff. These are all well and good in a trailer, but I can’t help but think that Resident Evil 6 won’t be going for the “horror” element of survival horror so much as the action-packed carnage.
The three-way split between different protagonists and geographical locations could be an interesting change of pace, even if detractors of the decision will immediately draw comparisons to the episodic nature of Call of Duty. That dude with the valuable blood is new to me, he seems like a good laugh!
So China will be one of the settings, as hinted by the cryptic warnings of the site NoHopeLeft that was discovered 2 days ago. Resident Evil will break new ground, it seems. Let’s hope that there isn’t the same racism furore this time around that plagued the release of Resident Evil 5!
Resident Evil 6 is scheduled for a Nov 20 2012 release date.
