Scolari sacked as Chelsea Manager
Blues dump Big Phil after disappointing results.
Chelsea announced late this afternoon that they had terminated Luiz Felipe Scolari’s managerial contract with immediate effect.
In a statement on the football club’s official website announced that Scolari had been dismissed as manager from today (Monday). The statement said: “The Chelsea board would like to place on record our gratitude for his time as manager.”
‘Big Phil’ had been hailed as the man to solve all Chelsea’s problems and bring some silverware back to Stamford Bridge this season after Avram Grant was dismissed at the close of last season.
In fairness to Grant, although he wasn’t the biggest of personalities, he managed to secure Chelsea as runners up in the Premier League, and second place in the Champions League, bested on both occasions by a stunning season from Manchester United.
Scolari was brought in last summer to be decisive and win titles. Despite an early winning streak, Chelsea have slipped off the pace in the Premiership, residing in fourth place and seven points behind current league leaders Manchester United.
Chelsea earned themselves a miserable 0-0 draw against Hull at the weekend which was the last managerial task Scolari attended as the Blues’ manager. Now the only Blues Scolari is likely to be involved with is his own disappointment at not receiving a fat pay cheque at the end of each month.
In Chelsea’s statement the club said: “In order to maintain a challenge for the trophies we are still competing for we felt the only option was to make the change now.” The club revealed that they had already started looking for a replacement manager.
Whilst no names have been confirmed so far, one possible candidate to become the new Chelsea manager is Gianfranco Zola. The ex-Chelsea forward is currently managing West Ham and has brought about a fantastic turnaround to the Hammers’ season, perhaps he can salvage Chelsea’s chances of a cup.
Other less likely candidates include recently sacked Tony Adams, then of course there is always ex-Man City and England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson. Assistant Coach Ray Wilkins will take the mantle of responsibility now until a more permanent replacement can be found.
Who would you like to see as the next Chelsea manager? Have Chelsea made the right decision to boot Scolari with the Champions League knock out stages so close? Where will Big Phil go next? Tell us your thoughts on the Chelsea debacle.

I reckon Sven is the man to take the job at Chelsea. He was unfairly criticised for England’s poor performance, and sacked for no apparent reason at Man City. He’s a quality manager with a proven record, he also knows some of the players from his time with England. He’s perfect for the job.
I’m surprised the owner doesn’t try his hand at managing the club, he seems to make the majority of the big decisions anyway.
Maybe he’d be more forgiving if he tried managment himself?
I’d like to see Mourinho back. Best trainer in the world as far as I’m concerned.
Arsene Wenger, maybe? Not that he could be pulled from the rough waters of the Gunners, but I think he could turn it around.
Millions of pounds, millions of players, and we’re still fourth! Give us someone not crap please.
