Star Wars Sitcom is No Jedi Mindtrick
Robot Chicken’s Seth Green and Matthew Senreich will create a Star Wars comedy animated series.
George Lucas has given the green light for an animated Star Wars sitcom which will be hatched from the creative mind of Seth Green, the man behind the Robot Chicken parodies of Star Wars.
It seems like a crazy idea, but Green, and The Daily Show‘s Brendan Hay, who has been brought in to help with the scripting believe an irreverent look at the Star Wars universe is a perfect reboot for the franchise after the blockbusting prequel trilogy finished with Revenge of the Sith in 2005.

“The Star Wars universe is so dense and rich; it’s crazy to think that there aren’t normal mundane everyday problems in a world so well-defined,” Green was quoted by Reuters, “What do these characters do when they are not overthrowing empires?”

Matthew Senreich who co-created Robot Chicken with Green revealed: “We’re going to pull back the curtain of some of those behind-the-scenes shenanigans.” Although no TV network has been announced yet to host the Star Wars sitcom, Cartoon Network would be an obvious first choice.

Lucasfilm Animation has already aired its hugely popular Star Wars 2D series Star Wars: Clone Wars, and the follow up 3D animation series Star Wars: The Clone Wars on Cartoon Network, whilst Robot Chicken was the flagship series of Adult Swim which shares channel space with Cartoon Network.

Star Wars is certainly ripe for parody, as Spaceballs, Robot Chicken and Family Guy have shown. The question that remains is whether a straight sitcom which is comical without being a Star Wars farce can really work? The Force will need to be strong with Green and Co. to make a Star Wars sitcom credible.

Actually, I thought the last three movies were already a parody of the Star Wars universe. This confirms that Lucas has snapped.
In my thinking, the first 3 movies, the radio shows and the novels are all canon. None of this other stuff is, and I hope that the last act of this congress is to order the prequels remade and the Clone Wars stricken from the record.
