The King is Dead, Long Live the King
The greatest American Idol for rock and roll, Elvis Presley, died 33 years ago. Neither the popularty of his songs nor the conspiracy theories concerning his death have faded from popular imagination.
It’s 33 years to the day since the death of Elvis Presley and his legacy is still going strong. People the world over are still captivated by the dulcet tones of the one known as the “King of Rock and Roll” or quite simply as “The king”.
It seems that only the volatile combination of prescription drug abuse and a truck load of hamburgers was enough to halt the resounding success of the King’s musical career which spanned 23 years and 32 chart number one records. Not to mention a host of Hollywood films, Grammys and other accolades.
So let’s remind ourselves of why the King was so great, in musical terms, not girth. Here’s ten of his records which fired popular imagination and tugged heartstrings the most:
#1 Love Me Tender (1956)
#2 Heartbreak Hotel (1956)
#3 Suspicious Minds (1969)
#4 A Little Less Conversation (1968)
#5 Jailhouse Rock (1957)
#6 Always On My Mind (1972)
#7 The Wonder of You (1970)
#8 Hound Dog (1956)
#9 Blue Suede Shoes (1956)
#10 All Shook Up (1957)
