Top 11 Video Game Trailers from E3 2011
E3 2011 has been a non-stop assault of awesome announcements. While new hardware was thin on the ground, there was plenty to shout about for games with exciting revelations for previously announced titles and some totally new reveals too. We asked which trailers got your pulses racing and fingers flexing the most. So, for your viewing pleasure, here are the top 11 game trailers of E3 2011, as voted for by you, the Gnews readers:
11: Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception
Nathan Drake will be whipping Uncharted fans into a frenzy of anticipation for the arrival of the series’ third instalment. Come November, you’ll have your hands full with a city of immeasurable wealth to find, and a shadowy organization to outmaneuvre.
10: Saints Row The Third
The perfect blend of cool and ridiculous, the trailer fits the game like a glove. Saints Row The Third has a lot to live up to after Saints Row 2, but by all accounts it looks set to take our expectations for gloriously crazy gangster action and take them to a whole new level.
Developer ID shows off the versatility of its post-apocalyptic FPS. Expect a heady, volatile mix that looks like Fallout 3 and BioShock were fused together after a nuclear explosion.
8: BioShock Infinite
More outlandish and jaw-droppingly gorgeous gameplay was on display from Irrational Games. I foresee more than a few mistimed jumps trying to hook onto that Sky Line… and it’s a long way to fall from the floating city of Columbia!
Developer Bethesda have a lot riding on Skyrim, but if this gameplay trailer is anything to go by, then the early cries of “Game of the Year!” may not be too cocky. It’s a long video at 14 minutes, but its worth watching every moment to soak up the atmosphere of this vast, epic RPG adventure. With dual-wielding, stunning spells, kill animations, infinite dragons and a whole lot more, there’s plenty to be excited about for 11.11.11.
6: StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm
It may be brief, but this trailer is so typically Blizzard that it just oozes excitement. Like any good Blizzard teaser trailer, this one drip feeds info and raises more questions than it answers. This time, get ready to harness the power of the merciless Zerg Swarm, rather than try to tame it.
5: Star Wars the Old Republic
As BioWare prepares to unleash its greatest undertaking to date, it’s appropriate that the MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic‘s E3 opening cinematic trailer is as grand as the game will surely be.
This absolutely beautiful trailer has racked up my anticipation another notch for some stunning lightsaber duels, not to mention a little gun-slinging action on the side. The critical question remains: Have you made your mind up yet? Light or Dark Side?
4: Hitman: Absolution
Without a shadow of doubt, it’s been too long since a Hitman game graced our screens. Hitman: Absolution sees Codename 47 return to active status once more. Expect a quicker, more agile assassination gaming experience that lets you use your wits and your surroundings more than any previous Hitman title.
3: Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary
It’s time to go back to where it all began. Step back into the revolutionary first Halo title, but see it through a sharper, slicker and digitally remastered visor. The ten years may have flown by, but the old Halo looks better than ever with more than a few new coats of paint.
2: Assassin’s Creed: Revelations
With an interesting musical accompaniment, Ubisoft have prepared another breath-taking trailer that once again proves the immutable law that hidden wrist blades are awesome. Although, by now, these guards should really expect the hooded fellow to whip them out at some point.
1: Tomb Raider
With an astounding majority, the trailer for the 15 year Tomb Raider franchise’s gritty reboot takes our top spot by a country mile!
Evidently the thought of guiding young Lara Croft through her earliest trials and tribulations has grasped the imagination of our readers with both hands. Well done Crystal Dynamics, you’ve clearly outdone yourself in breathing new life into the Tomb Raider series.

This year’s E3 was exceptional in terms of the sheer mass of good-looking games on display. Naturally, there was always going to be a whole bunch of terrific trailers that wouldn’t make the cut.
