Windows 7 Bigger Than Harry Potter and Wii
Microsoft can put the nightmare of Vista behind them, here is the proper XP sequel.
Microsoft’s new operating (OS) system Windows 7 has become more popular than Harry Potter and Nintendo Wii as Amazon revealed Windows 7 to be the biggest grossing pre-order product it has ever sold.
Sales overtook the previous record holder, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows after beta versions of Windows 7 received favourable reviews from various tech sites and online consumer polls.
Microsoft have ploughed a lot of time, money and effort into Windows 7 to avoid a repeat of its last OS upgrade, the disastrous Vista. If Microsoft 7 were a movie, it would be Rocky Balboa, whereas Vista would be Rocky V; Windows 7 is the satisfying conclusion that Vista should have been.
It took Microsoft several service packs and countless tweaks to get Vista to a stage where it was a solid product, but by then the damage had been done and Vista was forever to be condemned and damned.
Anecdotal tales exist that Microsoft asked some beta testers to trial a “new OS” which they were working on after Vista. After rave reviews Microsoft apparently revealed that the testers had been reviewing Vista all along with the name tag taken off.
As CNET succinctly put: “Deserved or not, Microsoft had dug itself a cold, deep, dark hole with Windows Vista.” Now Windows 7 has an opportunity to put right the wrongs of Vista. Good news for prospective Windows 7 users, the OS has been designed to be PC and netbook friendly, requiring less processing power to run, it should be ultimately compatible with even old machines still running XP.
The taskbar has also undergone a complete renovation to make it less cluttered and provide useful features like a full screen previews of documents and websites. Sharing data like music on networks has been made easier and more intuitive with HomeGroup, and the touchscreen features similar to those found on the latest smartphones will impress the techno-minded.
So far so good – thumbs up to Microsoft.

Looks like another Vista. Most of the visual effects have been done long ago in Linux with Compiz. Too bad Micro$oft doesn’t focus on getting the system more secure and stop selling this virus/malware magnet. I’m not impressed…
I have 2 PCs running XP and a laptop with Vista. I’m now thinking my only option, if I want 7 and to keep my current home networking going, is to upgrade all three at one fell swoop with the Home Upgrade package. I may well stick to my current configuration and hope for a price drop.
Great user focus in the product, sure is a winner.
I’ve just bought a Mac… It’s not that big, but I’m lovin it.
If you are thinking your PC can’t handle Windows 7, then here’s my sources about the official requirement of Windows 7 to run on your PC.

I fairly believe the specs are “low” comparing to Vista’s high-end requirements.
